Hello Zepp -- Charlie Clouser |

( Rambling on Evil Diva. Mild spoilers, not that anyone cares. )
I have to be at the courthouse by seven forty-five for jury duty tomorrow, which means I have to be up by six. I'm arming myself with a portable DVD player, the first half of Escaflowne, The Reckoning, a sketchbook, and a dog-earred copy of Watchmen and hoping for the best.

PS: moonsheen and halcyonjazz, I saw this on the front page of DA today. Dunno if you care if there's another "Salad Days" out there, but I thought I'd give you a heads up.

We were gonna get drunk and watch American Psycho in honor of the holiday, but this works too!
And once again, FTP is being a little bitch and not letting me update Evil Diva.

.... Aaaaand the Evil Diva update that I've been busting my hump all week to get up by midnight will be delayed, in the end, by the fact that I don't have the FTP password.
But hey, Wanted was good, and Jessie from Saved by the Bell (or Nomi from Showgirls, depending on your frame of reference) was sitting behind us, so that's, um. Something.
My new handbag has been named Wesley Gibson The Purse upon suggestion from my sister.

- Season one of Freakazoid will be released on DVD on July 29. The episode that spoofs Quantum Leap remains a highlight of my childhood.
- I almost want to write a fandom secret for how much Mark Smeaton's death DEVASTATED ME. I know that announcing my intentions sort of defeats the purpose, but guys, it was so sad. (EDIT: I am cheered by this photo, which is slutty and hilarious. Oh Cromwell, how I giggle at your visible discomfort.)
- I get to watch the finale of Top Chef tonight! If Richard doesn't win, I swear to god I will gut a puppy.
dafnap is my new best friend. <33333

I was very hungry tonight and craving Emeril's Alfredo sauce, so I swung by the local carneceria to grab some heavy cream and pasta. I minced my shallots nice and fine, I boiled my pasta and drained it; it wasn't until I had the cream in the pan that I realized that there was a nasty scratch and Teflon was flaking into my sauce.
Now, a rational person would have taken one look at the distinctly peppered appearance of the Alfredo at this point and dump it into the trash. I? I am not rational. I am PMSing.
... Of course, I made sure to Google search "teflon flake danger" as I ate my delicious carcinogenic pasta. :D

Under the Bridge -- Red Hot Chili Peppers |

I-I ... I think. I think I have a problem.
I bought another sketchbook.
The Moleskine just wasn't working for me. You guys warned me about the smeary pencils and slick surface, but I just wasn't prepared to feel like a hipster douchebag every time I pulled it out of my purse. (Perhaps more critically, the paper is retarded. Seriously, you'd think the notebook Picasso used would stand up to a little erasing.)
This time, I settled on a Paperblanks sketchbook. I guess it's a little cheesy in that the paper (plastic?) covers are actually printed/stamped with textures from an old leather binding, but it reminds me of a seventeenth century Turkish prayerbook I worked on in college. It has a bunch of nice features though -- a red ribbon to mark your place, a pocket in the back for mementos, and a flap that wraps around the front and is secured with a magnet. That's nice, because I usually have to stick scrap paper between pages to prevent smearing.
The paper is ... okay. It's less slick and smeary than Moleskine, and the tooth isn't too obnoxious. It's still a bit more smeary (and less forgiving to erasure) than I would prefer, but it's definitely more workable than the previous two sketchbooks. Plus, it being slightly cheap and even slightlier cheesy, I don't feel guilty pasting old sketches in there. FINALLY MY FLOOR WILL BE CLEAN. <333
( First five sketches in new sketchbook, you probably saw most of them in smaller form if you're on DA. Warning: original characters, and original character blather. EVERYBODY PANIC. )
Now I'm off to flag up on Scholar on FFXI and watch season two of The Tudors over my sister's shoulder! (Who, by the by, is giddy about her Skyy ad. She's "Samantha" on the far right in the Sex and the City picture.)

There comes a time in every girl's life when she has to learn Illustrator.
What books would you recommend, dear internet? What sites/tutorials have you found helpful? Any general tips, simple things you wish you'd learned ages ago?
